Retail Premises

One of our specialities is in the retail sector. We regularly deal with shop units in York City Centre, as well as its outlying suburban areas and surrounding villages. We also go further afield into North Yorkshire, embracing the many market towns around the county.

The types of shop which we deal with range from small city centre units of 300 or 400 square feet - suitable for an individual trader - up to much larger units which may be occupied by national retailers.

We provide advice to both landlords in respect of the letting of retail shops, and tenants who may wish to be disposing of their leases by way of assignment or sub-letting.

When “selling” a lease for a tenant, this may or may not involve the disposal of his business and the fixtures and fittings, depending on the strategy to be adopted. These are matters upon which we are well placed to provide sound advice.

We also regularly act on behalf of private individuals or property companies - for example, in respect of the sale or purchase of freehold retail shops, either with vacant possession or an investment basis.

The retail property market is one which is particularly dynamic. There is constant change occurring throughout the sector, reflecting movement in retail spending, and new retailers coming into the market place.
