Barry Crux & Company was established in July 1989 by Barry Crux to provide a professional service in the commercial property sector in York and North Yorkshire.

The company grew and expanded their specialisations to include a full range of commercial and residential property services across York, North Yorkshire and further afield.

In 2023 they joined the Garness Group of specialist property businesses, which have operated across the region since 1996.

We are still actively involved in various sectors of the commercial property market, specialising in licensed property, hotels, holiday parks and business sales of differing sizes. We cover the whole of York, North Yorkshire and East Yorkshire. Our offices are situated in the centre of York, and on the Fruit Market in Hull, which provide us with an excellent base to offer a first class service to our clients.

Being part of Garness Group allows us to benefit from the strength of experience, knowledge and trust garnered over almost four decades of supporting businesses, investors, landlords and tenants across the North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire & East Riding of Yorkshire regions. Our Team

Barry Crux

Barry Crux is a Chartered Surveyor and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been involved in the commercial property market for 40 years. His specialisation is the leisure and licensed sector, but also embraces the commercial market generally, as well as some elements of residential property – this experience extends over the north of England. He set up Barry Crux & Company in July 1989 since when he has established it as a leading practice involved in agency and professional work with a wide range of clients.

Apart from running the business, Barry has held positions as President of the General Practice Division of the RICS, represented the Yorkshire Branch on various committees and working parties over the years, as well as founding Index, a body for the training of Independent Experts.

Janet Joyce

Janet has been with Barry Crux & Company from the start and her main role is that of an experienced negotiator. She is the first point of contact for most enquiries and liaises closely with clients. Janet is also the office manager, dealing with many aspects of the business.

Andrew Spencer

Andrew is an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and has worked in the property industry for 28 years. He spent the first 5 years residential agency before moving across to commercial. For the last 23 years he has specialised in dealing with licensed and leisure properties in the form of hotels, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hotels and cafes. He deals with property lettings, the sales of closed vacant possession freeholds and the sale of going concern businesses both freehold and leasehold. He mainly covers the North and East Yorkshire areas but has extensive experience of the West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire markets. He has also previously covered other areas such as Teeside, County Durham, Tyne & Wear, North & North East Lincolnshire.
