Barry Crux & Company was established in July 1989 by Barry Crux to provide a professional service in the commercial property sector in York and North Yorkshire.

This embraced both agency and professional services to the business community in general. Over the years we have grown and expanded our range of activities. We now deal with a whole host of different types of both commercial and residential property throughout York and North Yorkshire, and indeed further afield with our various specialisations.

We are actively involved in the various sectors of the commercial property market, including retail shops, restaurants, offices, industrial premises, licensed property, hotels, as well as a whole raft of other types of premises. The sale of businesses is an area in which we are also actively involved, regularly dealing with sales of going concerns. These range from small businesses which are run by a single proprietor through to much large ones where large numbers of staff may be engaged.

We cover the whole of York and North Yorkshire with our activities in the market, and go yet further afield with our speciality and expertise in the licensed and hotel/hospitality sector.

Our residential property activities are more localised to York, where we manage a number of properties on behalf of both corporate and private landlords.

Our offices are situated in the centre of York, and provide us with an excellent base to offer a first class service to our clients.

Our Team

Barry Crux

Barry Crux is a Chartered Surveyor and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been involved in the commercial property market for 40 years. His specialisation is the leisure and licensed sector, but also embraces the commercial market generally, as well as some elements of residential property – this experience extends over the north of England. He set up Barry Crux & Company in July 1989 since when he has established it as a leading practice involved in agency and professional work with a wide range of clients.

Apart from running the business, Barry has held positions as President of the General Practice Division of the RICS, represented the Yorkshire Branch on various committees and working parties over the years, as well as founding Index, a body for the training of Independent Experts.

Janet Joyce

Janet has been with Barry Crux & Company from the start and her main role is that of an experienced negotiator. She is the first point of contact for most enquiries and liaises closely with clients. Janet is also the office manager, dealing with many aspects of the business.

Andrew Spencer

Andrew is an Associate of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and has worked in the property industry for 28 years. He spent the first 5 years residential agency before moving across to commercial. For the last 23 years he has specialised in dealing with licensed and leisure properties in the form of hotels, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hotels and cafes. He deals with property lettings, the sales of closed vacant possession freeholds and the sale of going concern businesses both freehold and leasehold. He mainly covers the North and East Yorkshire areas but has extensive experience of the West Yorkshire and South Yorkshire markets. He has also previously covered other areas such as Teeside, County Durham, Tyne & Wear, North & North East Lincolnshire.
